Yale University research professors, utilizing MRIs were able to demonsrtrate that the normal human brain reads by breaking down words into simple sounds.  On Nov. 3, 1997, this study was reported to the public, in the Baltimore Sun.  Dr. Reid Lyon of  the National Institute of Health, has noted that only the most severely brain damaged children do not have the ability to learn to read by the 3rd grade when given  mutli-sensory,  phonics based,  reading instruction.
